Here is Vermeer’s View of Delft (Dutch: Gezicht op Delft) present day.
An approximate position from the modern riverbank on Hooikade, south of the historic center.
View of Delft is an oil painting by Johannes Vermeer, painted around 1659–1661. This painting of the Dutch artist’s hometown is among his best-known cityscape in the seventeenth century and the one of the most famous cityscapes of the Dutch Golden Age.
Something about the interplay of light and shade, the dark cloud on a bright sky while the other part of town catches sunlight. The subtle reflections in the water makes everything seems serene.
Obviously, I am no expert.
Vermeer’s View of Delft is on display at the Mauritshuis in The Hague since its establishment in 1822. On view in Room 15.
