After witnessing two mesmerizing art performance clocks, I had to see the following:
The Grandfather Clock
šRijksmuseum
On display between rooms 0.5 and 0.6; ground floor corridor connecting the Middle Ages halls and the Asian Pavilion.
A giant 2-metre modern grandfather clock in real-time featuring a man ‘trapped’ behind the blurred LCD screen, redrawing the clock’s hands from the inside with a marker, capturing time.
This is a 12-hour recording of performances in a loop. This means it will take me a full 12 hours to watch it completely! Yeah, no.
But here is a 15-second time-lapse video of the Grandfather Clock in action.
Part of the Real Time series, created by none other than Maarten Baas, a Dutch designer.
He combines theatre, art, film and design in a series of clock designs.
The first of such clock that I have seen was the “Sweepers Clock” at the Erasmus University Medical Center, in Rotterdam.
The second was the “Schiphol Clock”Ā for theĀ Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.
Till the next one.
